ARCINIEGAS, Elizabeth Milena; MAGLIANO, Julio  e  BAZZANO, Carlos. Genital skin carcinomas treated with Mohs micrographic surgery. Ginecol. obstet. Méx. [online]. 2021, vol.89, n.1, pp.71-76.  Epub 17-Jan-2022. ISSN 0300-9041.  https://doi.org/10.24245/gom.v89i1.4186.

BACKGROUND:

Despite the promising efficacy of Mohs micrographic surgery, only a few cases have been reported where it has been applied to treat anogenital carcinomas. The outstanding feature of this technique is the horizontal section of the entire tumor margins. The main advantages of this technique are the greater preservation of healthy tissue and lower recurrence rates.

CLINICAL CASES:

Three cases of genital carcinomas are reported: one basal cell carcinoma and two spinocell carcinomas in situ. The diagnosis was established with the biopsy; later on, Mohs’ micrographic surgery was performed, the outcomes were satisfactory and without recurrences during the follow-up.

CONCLUSIONS:

Although Mohs’ micrographic surgery is indicated in patients with genital carcinomas, there are few publications on its application in this context, despite controlling the entire margins of the lesion and being the technique that sacrifices the least amount of healthy tissue in an area where the tissue is highly valued for its anatomical characteristics.
