NAVARRO-MARTIN, José Miguel  e  PEDRAZA-GONZALEZ, Leonel Alfonso. Survey on barriers in the practice of laparoscopic surgery in Gynecology and Obstetrics. Ginecol. obstet. Méx. [online]. 2021, vol.89, n.1, pp.24-33.  Epub 17-Jan-2022. ISSN 0300-9041.  https://doi.org/10.24245/gom.v89i1.4490.

OBJECTIVE:

To identify the challenges that prevent, on the one hand, the expansion of the practice of laparoscopy in gynecological surgery and, on the other hand, to evaluate if the various current academic programs of training of residents are assuming them.

MATERIALS AND METHODS:

Descriptive study, based on a survey to examine barriers in the practice of laparoscopic surgery in residents of Gynecology and Obstetrics. The survey was integrated with 11 questions and was applied among those who attended the XIV Encuentro Regional de Residentes, held within the framework of the XXIV Congreso Regional COMEGO 2019. Inclusion criteria: be a participant of the Meeting, answer all the questions of the survey and be part of a training program for residents. Exclusion criteria: not having answered correctly or completely the questions of the survey and not being a resident doctor in training.

RESULTS:

We collected 120 surveys with all the items correctly filled out of the 280 delivered (42.8% of the total). There were 92 surveys of public hospitals and 28 of private ones. 86.3% of those surveyed mention that laparoscopic surgery is essential in current practice. Up to 71.4% of the private and 53.3% of the public feel it is necessary to carry out a high specialty (1 year) as extra training. The main complication to perform laparoscopy in both was laparoscopic suturing, 42.8% private and 39.1% public: as well as the second complication being the image-eye-hand coordination 24.4% private and 31.5% public.

CONCLUSION:

Barriers to the adoption of laparoscopic surgical techniques were identified in the various resident training programs. More and more physicians-in-training have a desire to improve their capabilities in minimally invasive surgical techniques.
