Abstract

AVILA DELGADO, Noelia. Dynamics of the ambulant trade in the historic center of Oaxaca. Polít. cult. [online]. 2018, n.49, pp.29-48. ISSN 0188-7742.

This work deals with one of the agents that has participated in a protagonist way in the updating of the economic functions of the historical center of Oaxaca: the so-called informal or ambulant trade. From the geographic-relational approach of Doreen Massey’s geometry of power theory, it is shown that the web of interactions generated in its environment is mediated by a multiplicity of forms of appropriation that configure this space as a scenario of conflicts and exclusion. The conclusion is oriented to demonstrate that these appropriations also endow it with great vitality, putting it in motion as a dynamic and relational complex process.

Keywords : ambulant trade; historic town; appropriation of space; open space; exclusion.
