Abstract

CONSTANT, Chloé. Pensar la violencia de las mujeres. La construcción de la figura delincuente. Polít. cult. [online]. 2016, n.46, pp.145-162. ISSN 0188-7742.

Violence, and particularly that linked to delinquency and crime, remains in the collective imagination as related to virile male characteristics. Based on a historical analysis of the treatment of delinquent women, we show how religious principles for social control inherited form the colonial period, defined and imposed to our imagination gendered violent figures. This construction has crystallized violent males and fragile female individuals, and the dichotomical perception remains available today given that, when they deal with delinquency, mass media reproduce the image of virile men, and fragile and/or abnormal women.

Keywords : delinquency; violence; gender; social control; mass media.
