The aim of this article is the analysis of the recently approved Energy Reform (2013-2014), interpreting the constitutional changes and secondary laws, considering possible outcomes. We assume the core objectives of the reform have been displacing the State from its preeminent status in all the activities of the Mexican energy sector; changing property rights through contract arrangements and; transforming public activities to private ones, including the transformation of Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) and Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE). We conclude considering possible implications in the context of the US-Mexico relationship.
