Abstract

OJEDA REVAH, Mario. América Latina y la Gran Guerra: Un acercamiento a la cuestión. Polít. cult. [online]. 2014, n.42, pp.07-30. ISSN 0188-7742.

This article analyzes the impact that the First World War had on Latin America in various facets: the dislocation of transatlantic trade and its impact on Latin American economies, the coverage of the European war by the Latin American press and the renewal experienced by it, through the innovation of sending war correspondents, without the mediation of the European news agencies. The paper also discusses the various reactions of Latin American governments, either by declaring their neutrality or belligerency. The essay draws attention to the relative lack of studies on the issue and suggests lines of research on the subject, which may be undertaken.

Keywords : Latin America; First World War; press; neutrality; belligerence.
