Abstract
CARDENAS GARCIA, Nicolás. El debate sobre la historia científica y la ambivalencia de la modernidad. Polít. cult. [online]. 2014, n.41, pp.111-142. ISSN 0188-7742.
The aim of this paper is to discuss three problems posited by Leopold von Ranke when he explained the principles of scientific history. First, the very possibility of telling what really happened in the past, second, the relationship between the general and the particular, and third the relationship between the historian and his subject of study. In doing that, I resume the Ranke's arguments, and then I examine Friedrich Nietzsche's and Isaiah Berlin's critiques to that kind of history. Finally, I suggest that there were enough developments to answer these critics in the works of some classical sociologists.
Keywords : Ranke; scientific history; objectivity; Nietzsche; Berlin.
