This article is a product of the first assay to the information contained in the personal file of Sergio Méndez Arceo, Bishop of Cuernavaca. The objective is to review some of its main homilies, which shows its commitment to a project internationalist focused on the original essence of panamericanism, understood as the unifying effort and solidarity of the countries of Latin America in front of the imperialism forces. This approach made that Méndez Arceo was an important character in the process of political and social liberalization of Mexico in the second half of the 1970s and the 1980s.
