This article deals with the perception that the people of the town of San Pedro Tidaá has about its past in a context of great changes in their community. It presents the way they signify the conditions of the earlier community from the current context and how the present conditions in turn affect the manner in which the past is renewed. It speaks of the role their collective memory actually plays or can play, due to the meanings it brings in, in the present and in the days to come.
