This paper aims to shed light on the discussion of scientificity in regards to preelectoral polls in terms of the place where information is gathered and polls are carried out: the classic or orthodox view is that polls must always take place in a person's home, whereas a number of research projects that have studied social phenomena suggest that alternate methods be searched for, and for that reason a recommendation is made that information be gathered in public, open spaces where information may be gathered first-hand. In an exercise that was carried out in the municipality of Pachuca in the Mexican State of Hidalgo during the electoral race for governor of the same State, the alternate method managed to yield a smaller margin of error.
