In that sense, neoinstitutionalism is the recurring tool used to explain change in and permanence of political institutions by means of its two main propositions: one that is based on norms and regulations, and another one based on rational choice. This paper features a theoretical analysis whose aim is to reclaim a multiparty neoinstitutionalism as an alternative pathway
