The aim of this article is to show how the migration networks are structured and how this structure impacts on family and gender relations. The field work was carried out in Criciúma (Brazil) and Boston (United States). The data collected revealed that not only do women wait for their husbands and sons, they also have an effective participation in the process, establishing and operating migration networks and creating connections between the two places.
