Abstract

MARTINEZ VELASCO, Germán. Conflicto étnico y migraciones forzadas en Chiapas. Polít. cult. [online]. 2005, n.23, pp.195-210. ISSN 0188-7742.

This paper addresses, in a general fashion, the problems of demographic displacements in Latin America, with particular emphasis on Mexico and special reference to developments in Chiapas caused by religious factors in past decades and, more recently, by the political/military conflict. Some indications of the volume of migrant flows are given, together with their places of origin and destination and the vicissitudes inherent in the process. In this paper, involuntary displacements are seen as a way to redistribute the population within the framework of a community crisis that involves mechanisms of a struggle for territory.

Keywords : Migration; forced migration; displacement; destructuring; conflict.
