Abstract

FERNANDEZ, V. Ramiro  and  GARCIA PUENTE, Ma. Jimena. Revisiting the Latin American State in a Global Era: Regulationist and Neoinstitutionalist Perspectives. Perf. latinoam. [online]. 2012, vol.20, n.40, pp.35-61. ISSN 0188-7653.

The renewed importance of the nation state in promoting economic development in Latin America and the organizational, spatial and functional transformations it has undergone raise questions regarding the requirements and conditions necessary for the state to fulfill the role demanded by present historical conditions. In this article we discuss two theoretical perspectives on the state that have up to day been loosely connected and suggest several guidelines conducive to the definition and implementation of public policies that promote endogenous, equitable and balanced development in the region.

Keywords : Latin America; nation-state; development; neoinstitutionalism; regulation.
