Resumen

VALVERDE LOYA, Miguel Ángel. Elecciones en Estados Unidos: Bush contra Kerry. Perf. latinoam. [online]. 2004, vol.12, n.25, pp.237-247. ISSN 0188-7653.

In November 2004, presidential elections took place in the United States. President George W. Bush, a Republican, confronted Democratic candidate John F. Kerry. A very close race was expected, focusing on the economic situation of the country and national security, but it was the latter the one which prevailed during the campaign, even as significant participation was motivated by the issue of "moral values". It was thought that due to the closeness of the contest, any of the sides could appeal to judicial tribunals, just like four years before. At the end, President Bush achieved a clear victory; both in the popular vote and the electoral college, and his party increased its majorities in both chambers of Congress.

Palabras llave : elections; presidency; United States; campaigns; national security; foreign policy.
