Abstract

ARAIZA HERNANDEZ, Elizabeth. The “Script” and its Problems, or Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Text. Alteridades [online]. 2017, vol.27, n.54, pp.41-53. ISSN 2448-850X.

The notion of a less dichotomous and more fertile notion of text is inquired into, in order to question its use, in particular the use of the “script” in the pastorelas of the Purépecha region of Michoacán. The most relevant uses of the text in theater are explored, identifying two tendencies: textofilia (love of texts), textofobia (hate of texts), followed by other contemporary methods that suppress the text, up to the point of invading the scene. The paper highlights that, when adopting a dichotomous position that opposes scene to text, orality to writing, presence to meaning, transparency to opacity, one of these dimensions is, eventually, attributed more power or force.

Keywords : textofilia; textofobia; performance; theater.
