Abstract

SETTON, Damian. Hasidism, Cabbala and Rock in the Musical Project of Atzmus. Alteridades [online]. 2016, vol.26, n.51, pp.97-107. ISSN 2448-850X.

This paper analyzes the crossing among rock, Hasidism and Cabbala in the spiritual-musical practices of Atzmus rock band. It examines how the band is positioned in the social space of rock, unlike the circuit of religious music, and shows the way in which it combines a wide spreading form and another one that communitizes and ethniticies the idea of Cabbala and Hasidism, a process related to the construction of the meaning of their practices.

Keywords : Jewish orthodoxy; ethnicity; music; Chabad Lubavitch; spirituality; religiosity.
