Border crossings with Paraguay that characterize the province of Misiones, Argentina, are now privileged places where people and merchandise move in ways that are not always legal. From diverse episodes that happened in the fieldwork, this paper analyzes the way in which inhabitants and retailers on the border cities -or security and State agents- carry out activities that are considered illegal. These practices belong to a wider universe of political traditions and dissent within the Argentinian territory, and in reference to the State and the nation.
