Abstract

RUIZ MEZA, Laura Elena. Gender and Perceptions of Risk Facing the Climate Variability in the Region of Soconusco, Chiapas. Alteridades [online]. 2014, vol.24, n.47, pp.77-88. ISSN 2448-850X.

It presents the conditions of social vulnerability and risk of disasters before the hydrometeorological events that, in the last years, have been occurring with greater intensity andfrequency in the river basin of the Huehuetan river, located in the region of Soconusco, Chiapas. Through qualitative methods, this article examines the perceptions of men and womenfarmers, whose marked differences are explained by gender identity, sexual division of labor patterns and conditions of differentiated vulnerability in which they live, as well as by the influence that conservation projects exert in the river basin.

Keywords : climate change; social vulnerability; social perceptions; gender; river basin management.
