Abstract

CASTILLO RAMIREZ, Guillermo. Towards a Brand-new Mexico: Gamio's Pro-Indian Genealogy at the Beginning of Cardenism. Alteridades [online]. 2013, vol.23, n.46, pp.79-95. ISSN 2448-850X.

Within the pro-Indian genealogy of Gamio -started in his book Forjando patria-, and within the historical framework of Cardenism, indigenous representations and international program proposals of Towards a Brand-new Mexico are addressed. Firstly, the context and purpose of this book are described, placing them within the work and life of Gamio; then, reflections on the concept of nations, ethnical groups and interbreeding in Mexico during the 30s are made and, lastly, a reading of Gamio on cultural diversity and ethnical heterogeneity in the country is studied.

Keywords : pro-Indian; nation; interbreeding; integrationism; Mexican anthropology.
