Resumen

SANCHEZ PLATA, Fabiana  y  VIZCARRA BORDI, Ivonne. So I built "my" house: between the gender's relation and the (other) american dream of the couples of mexican migrants. Alteridades [online]. 2012, vol.22, n.44, pp.147-164. ISSN 2448-850X.

This article contributes to studies of gender and migration. It is an analysis of the processes of creation of family assets, specifically the house. We had access to information of 14 couples in a rural area where only men migrate. In addition to economic, social and political causes, we are interest in knowing if building a house is one of the causes why men migrate to USA (United States), and how is this process lived by men and women. We found that the promise to build a house is an excuse for men to migrate to United States. The couple's life changes and rearranges in this process, changing constantly the signification of building a house. The qualitative study was based on the life history of 14 couples from Solis Valley, Temascalcingo, State of Mexico where only men migrate. The houses built by migrants have changed the social dynamics, rural landscape as much as the process of symbolization and gen der relation.

Palabras llave : house; migration; gender; Mexico; symbolization.
