Abstract

VERDIN AMARO, Karina Ivett  and  SANTOS GARCIA, Saúl. The semantic network of Wixárika people's diseases. Alteridades [online]. 2012, vol.22, n.43, pp.97-110. ISSN 2448-850X.

We review the different Wixárika classification of illness, most of which are based on scientific medical patterns. We have tried to classify them using semantic procedures of Natural Language Processing. We have also used folk taxonomies and semantic networks to establish the relationships of meanings existing in the Wixárika people's diseases. It was possible to determine half of the disorders in a semantic taxonomy, but we need more information to classify the other half.

Keywords : Folk taxonomy; Natural Language Processing; IS-A networks; traditional medicine; semantics.
