Abstract

PEREZ RUIZ, Maya Lorena. Challenges to researching the indigenous young. Alteridades [online]. 2011, vol.21, n.42, pp.65-75. ISSN 2448-850X.

I analyze the current tendencies in the research of the indigenous young, stressing two problems: the concept of young as it is applied to the ethnic groups and the concept of indigenous. I propose to "de-naturalize" the concept of indigenous young, in order to make sense of the meaning of this classification historically and in its own context, which would allow us to understand the transformation of meaning and action that have been generated around the definition and practice of being an indigenous young person. I illustrate the theme with the case of a Mayan group in a corn producing area in Yucatan.

Keywords : young persons; indigenous; Mayan; "de-naturalize" the indigenous young.
