This paper is a literature review of one of the key institutions in Ibero-America: compadrazgo. This institution has become the object of several studies and is included in general anthropogical monographs. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to analyse the existing literature on compadrazgo by comparing and contrasting the different theoretical and methodological perspectives on this issue.
