Abstract

PALOMAR VEREA, Cristina. Maternity and the Academic World. Alteridades [online]. 2009, vol.19, n.38, pp.55-73. ISSN 2448-850X.

This paper analyzes the result of three operational dimensions intersecting in the academic world: the internal logic within this environment; its existing subjectivity; and maternity within the community. Based on a first approach study done among female academics in the University of Guadalajara, the author explains how the symbolic principle of gender is not consciously perceived and yet operates in an automatic manner, influencing work and shaping female academic subjectivity.

Keywords : motherhood; academia; subjectivity; University of Guadalajara; gender.
