Abstract

JACQUIN, Céline. "Las Americas" housing estate: a laboratory to observe the construction of a micro-society. Alteridades [online]. 2007, vol.17, n.34, pp.57-73. ISSN 2448-850X.

In a recent Social housing estate of Mexico's periphery, conditions of life, mobility as well as immobility patterns generate a certain isolation for the mass of population reunited there, making it a self-contained territory of life. The differential practices confined within it as well as the coexistence of different but close social layers, stimulate specific schemes of interaction that conform the neighborhood as a living arena where strategies of exclusion and inclusion are revealed according to larger principles of social identification.

Keywords : middle class; low income housing; housing estate; periphery; arena; conflict; social identification; social bond; Mexico.
