Resumen
DURIN, Séverine. Sacrificio de res y competencia por el espacio entre los wixaritari (huicholes). Alteridades [online]. 2005, vol.15, n.29, pp.89-102. ISSN 2448-850X.
The Wixaritari offer cattle as a sacrifice. It is said that during the colonial period cattle were offered instead of human victims as a part of the reconstruction process of ethnic identity around the preservation of the common territory. On the one hand, the cow resembles the sacrifiant -both are breast-feed as babies. On the other hand, when weaned, the cow becomes a plague to the crops and harvests -symbolizing the competition for the lands used for farming and shepherding. When a cow is sacrificed, the sacrifiant also offers a part of himself, and with this he conquers and takes back the common land.
