Abstract

INVERNIZZI, Noela. Participación ciudadana en ciencia y tecnología: algunas reflexiones sobre el papel de la universidad pública. Alteridades [online]. 2005, vol.15, n.29, pp.37-44. ISSN 2448-850X.

Since World War II, diverse social movements have questioned the technological - scientific development. During the 90’s, as a result of those movements, various modalities of civic participation in science and technology become generalized in developed countries. This article underlines the need to promote this sort of circumstances in Latin America as well as the possibility to have Universities actively undertake this process. This article also points out some of the difficulties to apply methodologies generated in industrialized countries. Also, it supports the idea that university traditional activities constitute a particular field in which is feasible to encourage participation spheres such as science work-shops as well as exchange of ideas between scientists and citizens.

Keywords : civic participation; science and technology; extracurricular activities.
