This paper proposes a theoretical tool with which it is possible to compare different explanations addressed to the same subject. This tool consists of three sets of virtues: epistemic, analytical and pragmatic. To support the above, two case studies are offered: the first compares two psychological explanations about the autism spectrum disorders, the second compares two explanations about the origin of numbers from an empiricist perspective.
