An analysis of the passages in the mentioned text dealing with, in a different way each, the coaction for faith. Four stages are considered in this sort of coaction: for the admission of preachers; for the preachers to be attended; for the Indians to accept faith and baptism; for the Indians to persevere in faith. A fifth aspect is added: the conquest as a previous step to evangelization. Fray Alonso’s doctrine is examined in the context of Christian tradition and of his contemporary thinkers.
