There are species of husk tomato native to Mexico, which have production potential and quality for commercial exploitation. The aim of this research was to evaluate the leaf area index and fruit yield of eight genotypes of Physalis spp. as a function of two cropping systems: (1) in Toluca (greenhouse) and (2) in Tenango del Valle and Zumpango (rainfed conditions), with the temperature and rainfall during the agricultural cycle of each place, called rainfed 1 and rainfed 2, respectively. A randomized block design with factorial arrangement and four replications was used. Significant statistical differences were detected in the genotype and cropping system factors for all variables. The genotype - cropping system interaction was significant in all traits, except for the number of leaves and biomass. It was concluded that P. philadelphica under the greenhouse system obtained the best fruit yield.
