Abstract

HERNANDEZ-SILVA, Dante Alfredo et al. Wildlife management as a tool for conservation and use: access to sustainability: looking for sustainability in Mexico. Acta univ [online]. 2018, vol.28, n.4, pp.31-41. ISSN 2007-9621.  https://doi.org/10.15174/au.2018.2171.

Wildlife management includes all those actions that are carried out to obtain ecological, socio-cultural or economic benefits derived from wildlife. At present, management is considered under a sustainability approach. So, it is urgent to reconcile two actions that were considered in the past as incompatible, obtaining an economic return on human activities and the long-term preservation of biodiversity. Under the guideline of sustainability should be combined through a management that meet the needs to maintain, increase, stabilize or decrease a population of wildlife in order that these actions impact on conservation, control, reproduction or sustainable use outside or within its natural habitat. The proper management of wildlife is only achieved with the participation of the different actors that are involved, which must adopt a technical-scientific judgment, considering animal welfare, applying basic and traditional knowledge and according with the current legislation.
