MARTINEZ-RUIZ, Diana Tamara  e  RIVERA-HEREDIA, María Elena. Young people who stay behind: an exploration on the perceptions and sense of well-being of university students on the phenomenon of migration Michoacan-USA, results of a psycho-educational intervention in universities. Acta univ [online]. 2017, vol.27, n.3, pp.101-114. ISSN 2007-9621.  https://doi.org/10.15174/au.2017.1197.

Herein, we discuss the most relevant results of our analysis of the discursive manifestations of the perceptions and imaginations of the phenomenon of migration (Michoacan-USA) and the sense of well-being that this entails. The results are produced based on two discussion groups involving university students of the Faculty of Psychology, of the Universidad Michoacana de San Nicolás de Hidalgo, through a psycho-educational intervention. The majority of participants (93%) are close relatives of migrants (child, brother, grandson, niece/nephew). We conducted the analysis of their discursive manifestations from two perspectives. The first that these young people are a population that “stayed behind in the place of origin”. The second focusses on the analysis of the discourses of the students based on categories constructed from their psychological resources, which, according to the perspectives of the participating young people, in some cases strengthen, and in other cases deteriorate in the face of migration. We conclude with an analysis of the sense of well-being as a factor that determines migration in this population.

Palavras-chave : International migration; psycho-educational intervention in university student; perception and sense of well being.
