Abstract
DIOSDADO DE LA PENA, José Ángel et al. Optimization of residual stresses in the shot peening process. Acta univ [online]. 2016, vol.26, n.5, pp.55-61. ISSN 2007-9621. https://doi.org/10.15174/au.2016.1115.
Simulation of a shot peening process on an aluminum plate was done using LS-DYNA explicit solver. Using the optimization module of the ANSYS Workbench® software, parameters of sphere diameter, array distance among them and impact velocity were changed to optimize tension and compression residual stresses values on plate’s surface, with purpose of improving fatigue life of metallic component. Numerical modeling was carried out with one, two, three and four spheres arrays. Result with the best compression residual stresses results was obtained using a sphere diameter of 1.17 mm with a three sphere array and an impact velocity of 54.75 m/s for the materials considered for the plate and sphere.
