Abstract

RAMOS-JIMENEZ, Katiuska Nair  and  JIMENEZ-BARRIOS, Ygmar Cecilia. Degradación de desechos tóxicos provenientes de laboratorios universitarios con foto-fenton solar usando diseño de experimentos. Rev. Int. Contam. Ambient [online]. 2016, vol.32, n.1, pp.119-131. ISSN 0188-4999.

The degradation of toxic waste (phenols 2500 ppm and chemical oxygen demand, COD 67 000 mg O2/L) was investigated with the solar photo-Fenton process. A central composite star type design was used to study the effect of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and iron (Fe), being the removal percentage of COD the response variable. Hydrogen peroxide concentration was the significant variable on COD removal. The optimum condition to remove 97 % of COD was 9 g/L of Fe (II) and 220.7 g/L of H2O2. The obtained compounds of the degradation for the optimum condition were formic acid and oxalic acid.

Keywords : advanced oxidation processes; central composite design; organic contaminants.
