Abstract

SANHUEZA, Leonardo; MARDONES, Cristian  and  JIMENEZ, Jorge. Effects of incorporating residential sources in mechanisms to offset industrial emissions of PM10. Rev. Int. Contam. Ambient [online]. 2015, vol.31, n.3, pp.279-291. ISSN 0188-4999.

This article discusses a case study oriented to analyze the compliance cost for reducing PM10 (Particulate matter with aerodynamic diameter ≤10 µm) emissions from industrial sources and residential wood burning. The results show that it is more efficient, from an economic perspective, to reduce PM10 emissions from residential sources than the emissions from industrial sources. If the Environmental Authority only targets industrial sources for emission reductions, it would be more cost-effective for them to offset PM10 emissions through programs oriented to upgrade current residential wood heaters.

Keywords : air pollution; economic instruments; cost-effective.
