Resumen
LIMA CAZORLA, Lázaro et al. NIVELES DE PLOMO, ZINC, CADMIO Y COBRE EN EL RIO ALMENDARES, CIUDAD HABANA, CUBA. Rev. Int. Contam. Ambient [online]. 2005, vol.21, n.3, pp.115-124. ISSN 0188-4999.
The objective of this study was to assess the levels of Pb, Cu, Zn and Cd in Almendares River (Havana City, Cuba). Fifteen sampling stations were located along the river. The concentrations of these metals were determined in the sediments and the roots of Eichhornia crassipes during the dry season of 2003 and 2004. Concentrations of Pb between 38.7 and 217.5 mg/kg, of Cd between <1.0 and 4.8 mg/kg, of Cu between 32.9 and 420.8 mg/kg, and of Zn between 69.9 and 708.8 mg/kg were found in river sediments. In the roots of the Eichhornia crassipes, a widespread macrophyte in the Almendares River, the concentrations of metals varied from 7.0 - 143.0 mg/g for Pb, <1.0 - 3.9 mg/g for Cd, 45 -466 mg/g for Zn and 5.1 - 77.0 mg/g. Similar spatial distribution was established for the metals in the sediments and in the plant's roots. Significant correlations (P<0.05) were found for Cu, and Zn contents in Eichhornia crassipes roots and in the sediments.
