GARCIA BALLESTEROS, Aurora; JIMENEZ BASCO, Beatriz  e  REDONDO GONZALEZ, Ángela. Latin-American inmigration in Spain in the 21st Century. Invest. Geog [online]. 2009, n.70, pp.55-70. ISSN 2448-7279.

Latino-American immigration in Spain increased in the last fourth of the 20th century and in the first decade of the 21st century, promoted by historical and social links and by bilateral covenants. Country provenance also changed due to the social-economic and political circumstances the countries were going through. Nowadays, most immigrants come from Ecuador and Colombia. The main effects that this emigration had on the countries of origin as well as immigrants' legal situation in Spain are studied. The age and gender structures and their health situation are also analysed. Later on, their spatial distribution is looked into, specially in Madrid and Barcelona where almost half of Latin-Americans are concentrated. In the last part, labour and their main activities are examined as well as the existing differences depending on the country of origin.

Palavras-chave : Immigration; Spain; Latin-America; demographic structure; health; employment.
