Abstract

LOPEZ VAZQUEZ, Víctor Hugo  and  PLATA ROCHA, Wenseslao. Analysis of the land cover change caused by the Mexico City Metropolitan Area expansion, 1990-2000. Invest. Geog [online]. 2009, n.68, pp.85-101. ISSN 2448-7279.

This article offer a land cover change analysis produced by the growth of Mexico City Metropolitan Area during de 90 s decade. We use a methodology that combine digital and visual techniques to classify satellital images, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and statistics analysis to identify the land covers under pressure by the urban expansion. The method make use of the cross tabulation matrix to examine the land changes in differents scales focused on the strongest signals of systematic landscape transitions to assess the spatial significant changes.
