Abstract

SHINJI KAWAKUBO, Fernando. Coastline change assessment at Ribeira de Iguape outlet and Barra do Icapara lagoonal mouth (southern coastal region of the State of São Paulo, Brazil) using Landsat MSS, TM e ETM+ images. Invest. Geog [online]. 2009, n.68, pp.41-49. ISSN 2448-7279.

Multitemporal Landsat MSS, TM e ETM+ data were used to assess the morphological coastline changes at Ribeira de Iguape River outlet and Barra do Icapara lagoonal mouth, Southern coastal region of the State of São Paulo, Brazil. Fraction images of soil, shadow/water and vegetation were created through a Spectral Linear Mixture Modeling (SLMM) and related with erosive and depositional features. After that, the fraction images were classified using a región growing segmentation and a supervised classification by región. Comparing the classifications generated (1976, 1980, 1993 and 2000) was possible to assess the dynamic actions which occur in the área. The results show that erosive and depositional processes are extremely fast and the geomorphic features can be changed in a short period of time
