Abstract

JAUREGUI OSTOS, Ernesto  and  HERES PULIDO, María Eugenia. Climate/bioclimate of on periurban park in Mexico City. Invest. Geog [online]. 2008, n.67, pp.101-112. ISSN 2448-7279.

The urbanization of Mexico City has progressed almost in all directions. The land use change has contributed to the intensification of its heat island (Jáuregui, 1986). The new urbanized suburban areas have an adverse effect on the thermal comfort during the warm season, since the creation of new urban parks lags behind the urban growth. In this paper the temperature and humidity regimes are examined in a park located in the north west of the capital city. Application of energy balance indices reveals that the present bioclimate is cold to cool during winter and warm comfortable during summer. These results will be of valuable use for future assessments as the accelerated urbanization process advances in that particular area.

Keywords : Urban heat island; urban parks; Mexico city.
