This paper examines the levels of economic assimilation in the coastal areas of Mexico. Firstly, the theoretical assumptions and quantitative criteria to define specific features of both population and economic activities are presented. Afterwards, the regional differences resulting from the various types of economic assimilation found in this study are examined.
