ROMERO HERNANDEZ, David y LOPEZ BLANCO, Jorge. Producción e integración de fotomapas digitales para la evaluación del crecimiento urbano en el Municipio de Texcoco, Estado de México: período 1970-1989-1997. Invest. Geog [online]. 2000, n.42, pp.48-66. ISSN 2448-7279.
A method to produce and integrate detailed digital photomaps was applied, in order to evaluate the growth of the main urban areas in Texcoco, Mexico. Three photomaps were elaborated. Their cartographic accuracy and precision were evaluated based on: a) the assessment of the Total Root Mean Square Error (TRMSE; S) by photograph, obtained through a geo-referencing procedure taking into account the position of ground control points prior to the geometric correction process, and b) the differences in position among some terrain features on our geometrically corrected aerial photographs, and the same digitized features from existent reference maps at a detailed scale (1:10 000). Results show that this methodology is useful, accessible and valid, in terms of cartographic accuracy in order to register and quantifying changes In the extension of urban areas with a virtually flat relief, it was found that some sectors of the area under evaluation presented a substantial growth, particularly in Lomas de Cristo and Lomas de San Esteban, which showed an accumulated growth percentage of 346% during the 1970-1997.
