The aim of this paper is to reveal the regional dinamic of the population living in the national park "Lagoons of Chacahua". In the first part of the paper, the methodological and theoretical position underlying this research are given. The second part goes on to establish the local settlement hierarchy based on the presence of four population centres. Lastly, we present the major findings with regard to the regional dependences of the economic functions exerted from those centres, particularly as seen from the spatial influence of health centres, food provision and commercialisation of the fish production.
