Some climatic elements as precipitation, mean, maximum and minimum temperatures, frost, thermal range, among others, are analyzed for the Mesa del Norte (Chihuahuan desert). The Gamma distribution is used to calculate probability and mode of yearly precipitation; ombrothermic graphs, modified for the different rain regimes are drawn and interpreted to evaluate the number of dry months, and an attempt to explain the dryness of the area is done. The main object of the paper is to give some climatic basis in the selection of alternatives for a rational use of the soil in the area.
