By means of several automobile traverses the heat island of a middlesized city in a tropical highland has been determined. The observed 5° temperature contrasts are in agreement with size of urban area. Seasonal variation of the heat island is examined using minimum temperatures. The increasing levels of air pollution are leading to higher frequency of poor visibilities and to an intensification of the heat island.
