Abstract

Objective: a study is carried out on the type of consumption practiced in the Metropolitan Area of Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. In order to know if this is done in such a way those individuals may be considering their impact on the environment. Methodology: to do so, a survey of 613 citizens was carried out and the results were analyzed using statistical methods. Results: it is found that although people point out know concepts related to sustainability, they give little importance to the harm that their demand for goods and services causes to the environment. Limitations: for budgetary reasons, it has realized a representative sampling but it was not random. Conclusions: although people in their majority point out to know concepts related to sustainability, we can warn that more than reasoned these are intuitive and, overall, taught from the media.
