BORBON ALMADA, Marta Irene e GRIJALVA MONTEVERDE, Gabriela. Economic liberalization and occupational structure. Polarization or degradation? Hermosillo 1992-2012. Estud. soc [online]. 2016, vol.26, n.48, pp.211-244. ISSN 0188-4557.
The objective is to expose occupational patterns induced by productive changes promoted in the city of Hermosillo, Sonora, during twenty years of economic liberalization. The methodology consisted in obtaining the distribution in the quintiles of income per worked hour of the employed population in each sector-occupation combination, using micro data from Encuesta Nacional de Empleo Urbano (ENEU) y de Ocupación y Empleo (ENOE), both surveys developed by INEGI. The results relate transformations of what is produced in the city (sector analysis), how is produced (occupational analysis) and the benefits (income) derived for workers. Therefore, the pattern of occupation's growth in Hermosillo after economic liberalization is characterized. As limitations, we faced that the data used don't allow relate directly the capital's origin with the wage conditions. Conclusions: outlined that local integration with global production system has reconfigured the productive structure with a polarizing effect in the occupational structure, as well as producing a pattern of income's degradation in an important share of activities.
