Abstract

The objective of this paper was identify the cultural, socioeconomics, and environmental factors which have influence over the women to practice the horticulture in the garden, and know the financial profits of the vegetables production in containers. Using a non-probabilistic sampling, 114 women were selected around in the peri-urban zone of Cardel City, Veracruz, México. An interview was realized to get the availability to practice of peri-urban horticulture (APPUH) and families were classified into four socio economic levels. The cost/benefit ratio was used to estimate the financial profit. The result of the APPUH is favorable, and four of six containers have a positive cost/benefit. Multiple factors affect the APPUH while the environmental factor determinate which vegetable could grow.
