Abstract

SALAZAR BARRIENTOS, Lucila de Lourdes  and  MAGANA MAGANA, Miguel Ángel. Milpa and backyard contribution to self-sufficiency food in Mayan communities of Yucatan. Estud. soc [online]. 2016, vol.24-25, n.47, pp.182-203. ISSN 0188-4557.

The information of this paper was obtained through a statistical survey to 400 families. This was from a total of 2,335 families in five locations in the State of Yucatán, geographically located in different regions. The results presents that cultivated in milpa and backyard provide 63.7 % average of food, one community results self-sufficient (119.1 %) instead of agricultural diversity index. The main factors that affect the food access are distance to market, father age and education, size of the family, income and agricultural diversity index.
